About Us
Rural Women Foundation
Women play a critical role in achieving sustainable development. True sustainability (economic, social, and political) cannot be realized without women as equal partners in the development process. Empowering women through greater opportunities, recognition, and elevated status creates a powerful ripple effect that strengthens communities and drives long-term progress.
At RWF Nigeria, our primary mission is to champion the cause of womanhood, rural advancement, and community development across selected communities in Nigeria.
RWF Nigeria believes that women are vital partners in sustainable development and must be actively involved in shaping the policies and decisions that affect their lives. Women should take centre stage in addressing developmental issues, particularly those that directly impact them.

Youth, especially girls, are central to this vision. As future mothers, leaders, and contributors to national growth, their well-being is critical to sustainable development. RWF prioritizes their education, healthcare, and long-term opportunities, recognizing that investing in girls is investing in the future.
The family economy in Nigeria encompasses production, marketing, savings, investment, and capital generation. Women contribute significantly, forming about 27% of the national labour force (1999 estimate). In rural areas, approximately 84% of women engage in agricultural work, though the exact figures vary by region. In some communities, rural women account for up to 75% of food and crop production, making them essential to both agricultural productivity and national food security.
